Six buildings at MoD Donnington in Telford have released information relating to a precautionary check for asbestos on the site over the course of several days in August. Around 70 Ministry of Defence staff were moved into other buildings during the asbestos survey work that took place between 15th and 21st August.
An MoD spokesperson stated that no asbestos had been discovered during the survey and that all workers were allowed to return to the buildings they work in as normal as soon as the survey process was complete.
MoD Donnington has a number of buildings that are of importance to UK defence, including a Defence Fulfilment Centre that is responsible for the storage and distribution of supplies for UK troops. There has been no confirmation as to which of the six buildings were specifically under observation as part of the asbestos survey project.
The logistics hub was only opened in 2017 and it is estimated that it will provide 700 jobs and bring in around £60 million to the local economy in the Telford area.
Although no asbestos was found on site it is vital that should there be any fear of asbestos or asbestos materials present on a site that an asbestos survey is undertaken. Asbestos is a dangerous material that can cause long-term health problems to anyone who comes into contact with it.
