Number of Lincolnshire Asbestos Related Deaths to Peak in Next Two Years
A coroner in northern Lincolnshire has declared that the number of inquests into the deaths of people exposed to asbestos is on the rise, and that the cases will likely peak in the next two years. Many of the cases are linked directly to exposure from the place of work of the deceased.
As a culture we started to become aware of the dangers of asbestos and asbestos-related illnesses and diseases in the last 30 years, but with the advancement of diagnosis it is often now evident that a person has died due to this type of illness, rather than requiring an expensive and lengthy post-mortem process.
In the Lincolnshire cases there has been a factory worker, pipefitter and bank manager as some of the different types of occupation that individuals have suffered as a result from. It goes to show how extensively asbestos was used within construction prior to it being banned as a material to be used in the UK in 1999.
